Strategies for More Effective Email Marketing Campaigns

Email campaigns are one of the most effective marketing strategies available to businesses today. The primary reason for this is because email campaigns usually target audiences that have voluntarily expressed interest in the products and/or services you offer. (Think newsletter or blog post signups, product updates, sales, etc.)
It's easy to assume that because people voluntarily signed up for your updates, they'll read every email you send. This is not the case. You're competing with many other emails that make their way into your subscribers' inboxes, which is why you need to be aware of the strategies that help your emails stand out from the rest.
When creating your next email campaign, keep the following tips in mind:
- Snappy (but descriptive) headlines get results: Take an extra minute to think of a subject line that is creative, but to-the-point. The subject line needs to lure them in, while also accurately setting the expectation of the content contained within.
- Offer something tangible, and expected: People read emails that contain information they deem relevant. This info can be anything from a sale, to a giveaway or basic information about upcoming events they've expressed interest in. Whatever you're promoting, make sure you're delivering what they signed up for.
- Be relatable: Let your readers know what you have to offer in a way they can relate to. Phrases like "We've all been there before", and "You are not alone" etc. come across as relatable and as understanding the needs of your audience.
- Get to the point quickly: This will allow people to preview the email and quickly assess whether it's worth reading further.
Finally, try not to overwhelm subscribers with too many emails. Make sure the emails you send have a purpose and aren't delivered just because "it's on the weekly to-do schedule". I know some of these pointers may sound like no-brainers, but when you're in the heat of the moment and looking for ideas to help you stand out, it's always good to have a checklist before you hit 'Send'.
